In nine months of 2024, natural gas consumption in Latvia has increased by 17.2% when compared to the same period of 2023, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSP).
In the first nine months Latvia consumed 6.402 TWh of natural gas (5.46 TWh in the same period of 2023).
In September, Latvia consumed 515 314 MWh of gas, which is 0.9% more when compared to the same months of 2023.
In turn, in January this year 1 932 TWh of natural gas were consumed in Latvia, which is 72.6% more than in the respective month last year, in February – 1,331 TWh of natural gas, which is 11% more, in March – 907 585 MWh, which is a drop of 11.9%, in April – 513 424 MWh, which is an increase of 23.6%, in May – 221 306 MWh, which is 3.3% less, in June – 174 242 MWh, which is 48.8% less, in July – 366 077 MWh, which is 74.6% more, but in August – 440 841 MWh, which is an increase of 8.3% compared to the corresponding month of last year.
As previously reported, the volume of consumed natural gas in Latvia last year dropped by 5.4%, reaching 8 406 TWh.
Last year, the largest amount of natural gas was consumed in December – 1.25 TWh, which is a decrease of 21.8% compared to the corresponding month of 2022.
Followed by February, when 1 199 TWh of natural gas were consumed in Latvia, which is 9.3% more than in the corresponding period of 2022, January, when consumption of natural gas compared to the corresponding month of 2022 in Latvia decreased by 27.1%, constituting 1 119 TWh, March, when natural gas consumption comprised 1.03 TWh, which is 1.5% more, and November, when 1 014 TWh were consumed in Latvia, which is a decrease of 9.7%.
