From speed limit violations to invasive plants: what penalties do Saema deputies receive?

Since September 2024 until January 2025, a total of ten Saeima deputies have received administrative penalties, according to information from the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior provided to the Saeima Mandate, Ethics and Submissions Committee.

Deputies Dāvis Mārtiņš Daugavietis (New Unity) and Alīna Gendele (New Unity) received administrative penalties for ignoring road signs.

Deputy Iļja Ivanovs (For Stability!) received an administrative penalty for speed limit violations within a populated area. Ivanovs also received an administrative penalty for driving a vehicles without a driver’s licence or ID on his person.

Deputy Juris Jakovins (Union of Greens and Farmers) received administrative penalty for violations in the provision of medical opinions or health care violations.

Deputy Mārcis Jencītis (Latvia in First Place) received an administrative penalty for violating the firearm safety rules on the movement of a gas weapon and a signal weapon or its ammunition. Deputy Aleksandrs Kiršteins received a penalty for allowing the spread of invasive plant species other than aquatic plants, including cultivation, non-implementation of containment measures, reproduction and movement, with the exception of movements in connection with their eradication.

Deputy Viktora Pučka (For Stability!) received an administrative penalty for failure to comply with the lawful requirements of the official or for interference with the activities of the official, as well as for failure to use the official language to the extent necessary for the performance of professional and office duties, if the laws and regulations provide for the use of the official language.

Deputy Leila Rasima (Progressives) received an administrative burden for failure to comply with requirements for passengers. Ainārs Šlesers (Latvia in First Place) received an administrative burden for making an object of copyright or related rights available to the public and for reproducing it for the purpose of performing such activity without payment of the consent or remuneration of the holder of copyright or related rights.

Deputy Ģirts Štekerhof (New Unity) received an administrative burden for violating the requirements of road markings.
