On Friday, skies will be mostly cloudy, but the sun will break through from midday. According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, precipitation is expected across most of the country overnight into Friday and in the eastern part during the day—starting as snow and transitioning to sleet and rain.
In some eastern areas, the snow cover may increase by 1–3 cm, and during snowfall, visibility could be reduced to around 1,000 meters. Forecasters urge caution for all road users, as icy patches may form on some road sections during the night.
A light to moderate southwesterly to westerly wind will blow, shifting to a west-northwesterly direction and strengthening during the day, with gusts reaching 15–16 m/s in western and central regions. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 0…+3°C in the west and down to -5°C in the east. During the day, maximum air temperatures will range between +2…+7°C, and up to +10°C in the west.
Over the weekend, cloud cover will bring only light and scattered precipitation.
Fog is expected to form in some areas on Saturday evening and into Sunday night. On Saturday, light to moderate northwesterly to westerly winds will prevail, later shifting from the southwest and strengthening again to 15–17 m/s in western and central regions. Winds will ease significantly on Sunday.
Overnight into Saturday, minimum temperatures will fall to -2…-6°C, around 0°C along the coast. Into Sunday night, frost will be present only in some places, with temperatures ranging from -1…+4°C. Daytime temperatures will rise—on Saturday reaching around +10°C in many areas, and on Sunday, up to +15°C in some locations.
At the beginning of the new week, clouds will bring rain to many parts of the country, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms. The wind will shift from the south and remain light. Frost is no longer expected at night, and daytime temperatures will reach as high as +20°C.
