The Freeport of Riga has plans to create the biggest solar panel park in Latvia in Spilve fields. The planned power output is at least 100 MW. The park is planned to produce at least 100 000 MWh of electricity annually, according to Freeport of Riga authority.
This amount meets energy consumption of a moderately large city in Latvia. It is also the first step towards the creation of a massive industrial park in Spilve, the authority adds.
Developer of the solar panel park will be picked through an international tender organised by the Freeport of Riga authority.
The plan is for the park to cover a territory of 176 ha. This is enough for a 100 MW solar panel park.
Multiple parameters will be considered – classic land rent and the green energy the manufacturer will provide to the sea port to cover basic needs.
«The solar panel park will allow us to produce green energy for the port’s and Riga’s enterprises. It may also make electricity cheaper for all residents in Riga,» said chairman of the Freeport of Riga and Riga City Council deputy Viesturs Zeps.
According to Zeps, Freeport of Riga is the biggest industrial park in Baltic States and it has unused potential in Spilve. He adds the development of Spilve industrial park has potential for the development green energy – «first the solar panel park, then development of hydrogen technologies».
«Modern international manufacturers and logistic networks require ‘greener transport corridors’, and a solar panel park is an opportunity to offer stevedores green and cheap energy,» said Zeps.
According to him, creation of a solar panel park would be a big step towards Riga’s and Latvia’s energy independence.
The initial auction price (annual rent price): EUR 233 251.05 + 5% of the volume of electricity produced in each electricity trading interval.
