Former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and current Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, has warned that Russia’s war against Ukraine could last until 2034, according to the public broadcaster LSM.LV.
In his view, if Ukraine seeks a ceasefire without building its future defense capabilities, the war could drag on for many more years.
According to Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine entered a new, radically different phase of the war with Russia last year. He described a shift in Russian battlefield tactics, noting that the Kremlin has moved away from direct assaults in favor of a war of attrition targeting both Ukrainian military personnel and civilians.
The former high-ranking general stated that Kyiv must reassess its defense strategy and approach to mobilization in order to prevent Russia from exploiting Ukraine’s demographic and economic vulnerabilities.
