Latvia’s ministries should cooperate in order to implement the «green course» and keep in mind that crises do not make it not mandatory to follow, as noted by Foreign Investors Council in Latvia (FICIL) representative Dace Cīrule at a meeting of Saeima’s Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee on Wednesday, the 21st of December.
She stressed Latvia cannot pretend there is no need to adopt a «green course», adding that Latvia needs to be prepared to prove the country progresses with its implementation.
Ministries have many good employees with appropriate knowledge, but they cooperate with representatives of other ministries very rarely. On top of that, they do not always consider each other as equals, said the FICIL representative.
Cīrule said this in the context of a new ministry’s creation, adding that FICIL is cautious in regards to such a new institution.
It would be great if this new ministry became a tool to help resolve the problem of very poor cooperation between other ministries.
It is also necessary to secure additional information and study the ministry’s related legislation, said the council’s representative. FICIL has no illusions about the new ministry – conclusions will be possible only when this new institutions accomplishes something, said Cīrule.
Foreign investors in Latvia consider the topics of climate and environment as one whole, which is why they believe those responsible for closely related sectors to cooperate, not waste time solving disputes and potentially escalate situations to a conflict, said FICIL representative.
Cīrule also said it will not be possible to implement the green course grey economy remains at one-fourth of the country’s economy. FICIL representatives also listed certain tools to help reduce the grey economy.
