Last year 142 people in Latvia died in various road traffic accidents. This is 27 deaths more than the year prior, according to information from Latvian State Police.
132 people died in various road traffic accidents in 2020, 141 died in 2021, 115 died in 2022.
Most often people lost lives in various vehicle collisions, hit and runs and vehicles getting overturned.
Last year 382 people were injured in various road traffic accidents. This is 47 fewer people than a year prior. 3 783 road traffic participants received light injuries in various road traffic accidents, which is 190 more than in 2022.
A total of 18 899 road traffic accidents were registered in Latvia in 2023, which is 260 fewer than a year prior.
Latvian authorities also initiated 3 413 criminal procedures and administrative violation procedures involving drunk driving (4 297 a year prior). 815 cars were confiscated from people caught drunk driving last year.
