Eurostat: Latvia among 11 EU countries will retail trade growth in December

Retail trade turnover in Latvia in December 2023, when compared to the same month a year prior, went up by 1.1%, putting Latvia among 11 European Union member states in which growth was observed, according to data published by Eurostat for 24 EU member states.
The most rapid growth was observed in Croatia (+8.9%), Cyprus (+3.8%), Spain (+3.4%), and Lithuania (+2.8%).
The most rapid drop was observed in Slovenia (-15%), Estonia (-4.2%) and Slovakia (-3.8%). In Finland retail trade turnover remained unchanged.
In EU countries for which data is available, retail trade turnover in December went down by 0.7% when compared to December 2022. In Eurozone member states it went down by 0.8%.
When compared to November, retail trade volume in the EU went down by 1%. In Eurozone it went down by 1.1%.
The biggest drop in a monthly perspective was observed in Slovenia (-3.6%), Denmark (-3.2%) and Luxembourg (-3.1%), whereas the biggest growth was observed in Slovakia (+2%), Croatia and Hungary (+1.4% in both) and Portugal (+0.7%). Retail trade turnover in Latvia in this period went up by 0.1%, in Lithuania it went up by 0.3%, and in Estonia – by 0.4%.
No data is available for Czechia, Greece and Italy.
