European Union prepares ninth packet of sanctions

European Union prepares to release the ninth packet of sanctions against Russia as an answer to heavy attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure, writes Reuters.
On 24th of November, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen held a press conference with the prime ministers of Finland and Estonia and the deputy prime minister of Sweden and told the media that the ninth packet of sanctions is on the way. Von der Leyen didn’t disclose details about the measures of new sanctions. She told that the EU is working hard and will make sure that the new round of sanctions will hit hard and will be an obstacle for Russia to continue its barbaric war in Ukraine.

Von der Leyen told that she is confident that the EU and partners will soon approve a global price cap on Russian oil.

This week EU designated Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. Von der Leyen told that the EU will stand with Ukrainians for as long as necessary: «I also know our Ukrainian friends will overcome this strategy because they are strong and their cause is just and we, the EU, stand here by them in these very difficult times as long as it takes.»
Recently Russia has been targeting civil infrastructure. Moscow admits that it is doing a campaign of strikes against electric power and other infrastructure to push Ukraine to negotiate.
