European Commission praises Latvian KNAB’s “efficiency”

Latvian Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau’s (KNAB) Communication Office reports that this institution is one of the existing anti-corruption institutions in the European Union, whose structure and functions are praised in the European Commission’s published good practice handbook for anti-corruption measures.
The European Commission emphasises KNAB’s contribution to the prevention of corruption in Latvia. The institution is also praised for its work to improve regulations. Among the changes

it is worth mentioning the criminalisation of high volume financing of political parties,

as well as KNAB’s enforced duty “for public institutions” to develop and adopt internal control systems to prevent corruption and conflicts of interest. The European Commission also outlined KNAB’s successful measures to adopt internationally provided recommendations for corruption prevention.
