Member states of the European Union still have not reached an agreement on a full embargo or increased tariffs on imports of Russian oil and gas, as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell told Die Welt.
«Halting or imposing penal tariffs on imports of gas and oil world help exact pressure on [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and force him to sit at a discussion table. Currently, however, the EU does not have a unified position on this topic,» said Borrel.
He said this topic will be addressed at the next EU summit, which is scheduled for the end of May. He also said he does not expect any solutions to come sooner than that.

All EU member states work to reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas, said Borrel, adding that Europe will eventually reduce this dependence.
«It will happen at some point, and when it does Russia will experience a painful realisation that revenue from oil and gas is going down,» he added.
