European Union (EU) ambassadors have approved new sanctions against Belarus, introducing restrictions on dual-use goods and aviation parts, Lithuanian public media LRT writes.
Sanctions against persons connected with hostilities in Ukraine have also been added. This information was confirmed by the Ambassador of Lithuania to the EU, Arnoldas Pranckevičius.
Prankevich wrote on Twitter that a package of sanctions against Belarus (dual-use combat and aviation goods) was approved and
sanctions against about 1,800 Russian citizens and legal entities were extended.
Last time, sanctions against Belarus were adopted a year ago. It is expected that the new sanctions package will be approved in the coming days. Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Jovita Neliupšienė stated that these sanctions will be similar to those imposed on Russia. She added that Belarus is helping Russia to expand its aggression, and its territory is being used to circumvent sanctions, besides, Belarus has a very bad situation in the field of human rights.
Since the beginning of the year, EU countries have been talking about equalizing sanctions against Russia and Belarus. However, some countries want to keep exemptions for Belarusian fertilizers, which Lithuania categorically opposes.
