In Estonia, the Centre Party, which is one of the two political forces that form the government, has called for lifting from February 7 the current epidemiological restrictions linked to the digital Covid-19 certificate. The centrists pointed to the decreasing number of Covid-19 patients in the intensive care units of Estonian hospitals, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports.
In a statement published on Sunday, January 30, the party, which established the restrictions currently in place alongside the governing Reform Party, reasoned that a situation has arisen that allows the Estonian society to open up again due to the level of Covid-19 vaccination, transmission rate and Omicron strain.

«It is time to phase out the use of the Covid-19 certificate domestically and start easing other restrictions and reviewing the self-isolation requirements for close contacts. It is time to return to a way of life where we take into account the presence of the virus, but do not let it guide and control us», the coalition politicians stated.
The Riigikogu faction of Centre Party evaluated that the Covid-19 certificates and mass PCR testing were no longer justified. Instead, the risk groups of the disease need to be the focus of new measures, the centrists noted in the statement as quoted by the ERR.
