Estonian postal service provider Omniva will resume delivery to the US, initially restoring gift parcels worth up to 100 dollars, and by early November, restoring delivery of all parcels, writes ERR News.
Private customers will be able to resume registering non-gift parcels starting the 31st of October, while businesses will be able to do so starting the 10th of November. Omniva Group’s acting chief commercial officer Sven Kukemelk said that gifts up to 100 dollars can be sent to the US from the 21st of October. He added that Omniva can once again ensure that parcels are properly declared and delivered on time.
In August, Omniva and other European courier services temporarily suspended deliveries to the US after new US customs regulations required that every package be declared and that low-value shipments be subject to customs duty. The Estonian postal service provider explained that
no conditions had been developed for the new customs procedures.
The conditions have now come into force, and Estonia is following the example of other European countries that have introduced virtual customs payment systems, where it is possible to calculate the duty, declare the shipment and pay the customs duty.
For packages subject to customs duty, customers will have to pay both the duty and the service fee immediately when registering the shipment. The amount will depend on the contents of the package. Post offices will also resume registering packages for shipment to the US by the end of the year.
Omniva has also resumed accepting packages sent to the US in Latvia.
