Estonia not seeing less cargo trucks from Russia after sanctions

On the Estonian-Russian border, there has not been a significant drop in the flow of goods across the border in the first days of EU sanctions keeping Russian and Belarusian lorries away from the border, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports.
Since Saturday, April 9, EU sanctions are in place. ETV’s Aktuaalne kaamera programme reported on Monday. April 11, that at the busy Narva border point on the Estonian-Russian border the highest number for several weeks had been registered on Sunday, April 10.

«The queue was up to 70 hours long on the Russian side. Currently, the queue is over 30 hours. The fact that Belarus and Russian trucks are now missing does not reduce this border crossing load. Freight transport has increased,» reported Ants Kutti, the head of the Estonian border guard’s external border division.
Russian cargo drivers, in turn, have until the end of the week to leave Estonia.
Now, trucks from other countries can increasingly be seen at the Narva border crossing. «We have noticed that Moldovan trucks, for example, have [started to] come in. Does this now mean that they are, so to speak, replacing this niche market, it is too early to say,» the official expressed caution, as quoted by the ERR.
