Estonia approves a new government; Kallas remains the prime minister

Estonia’s new coalition was approved by President Alar Karis on Monday, 18 July. The new government was approved at 15:00 in Estonia’s parliament (Riikogu), as reported by Estonian public media ERR.
This Monday Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and 14 candidates gathered at Kadriorg Palace, where President Alar Karis officially appointed them to their posts.
According to ERR, the coalition consisting of the Reform Party, Isamaa and Social Democratic Party replaced Kallass’ minority government that was appointed in June.

The new government will remain in power for eight months until March 2023, when Estonia will have the next parliamentary elections.

The new coalition will consist of 15 ministers – five from each party. Six of the proposed ministers have no previous experience working as ministers and five of them are no even members of the parliament.
Four ministers are from the previous government and will remain in their respective posts.
Seven of 15 ministers are women, including the prime minister. The average age of new ministers is 45.6 years. The oldest minister is 60 years old and the youngest is 31 years old.
