Downpours, thunderstorms, and fog – a week of changing weather continues in Latvia

On Wednesday, the skies will be mostly cloudy, with only occasional glimpses of sunshine. The day will be rainy—heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected in many parts of the country, and in some places, the rainfall may be very intense, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Hail is locally possible, and during thunderstorms, wind gusts may intensify sharply, briefly reaching 15–17 m/s. In the early morning hours, light winds may allow fog to form in some areas. During the day, air temperatures will rise to +20…+25°C.

On Thursday and Friday, the skies will remain mostly cloudy, with occasional clear spells. Rain is expected throughout the country, and in some places, thunderstorms as well. On Thursday, both during the night and day, as rain clouds continue to form, heavy downpours are expected in certain regions, while on Friday, precipitation will become less intense.

Winds will be light, and localized fog may form overnight into Thursday.

Nighttime temperatures will drop to +15…+20°C, while daytime temperatures will rise to +20…+25°C.

As at the beginning of the week, weather conditions over the weekend will continue to be influenced by cyclonic activity, meaning rain and thunder will be present in different parts of Latvia each day—mostly during daylight hours. At night, temperatures will remain above +15°C, and during the day, highs will continue to range between +20…+25°C. Similarly dynamic weather is expected next week as well.
