Last week, 460,937 euros were defrauded from residents of Latvia, according to information from the State Police.
From the 24th to the 30th of November, the State Police registered 271 fraud cases. In 71 of these cases, residents lost money, while in 197 cases the scammers’ attempts ended without financial losses. In three cases, the amount of damage is still unknown. The total losses suffered by residents amount to at least 460,937 euros.
Most of the money is still being stolen through phishing or fake-call schemes, where scammers pose as employees of utility service providers, the State Police, mobile operators, the State Revenue Service, banks, postal services, or social services. Last week, phone scammers managed to extract 303,931 euros, with most of these cases once again recorded in the Riga region — 189 incidents.
