December in Latvia feels like spring – new warmth record set in Pāvilosta

By 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the highest air temperature in Latvia had reached +9.3°C in Pāvilosta, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The previous record for the 10th of December was +8.9°C, observed in Kolka in 1964.

The warmth record was broken not only in Pāvilosta, but also in Liepāja, Rucava and Ventspils.

Meteorologists predict that in the coming hours, additional monitoring stations across the country will also surpass the previous maximum temperature record for the 10th  of December, and new records for the 11th of December are expected overnight.

As reported earlier, Tuesday’s maximum air temperature ranged from +6.2°C in Dagda to +9.4°C in Bauska. Seven monitoring stations recorded new warmth records for the 9th of December.
