Covid-19 situation in Riga’s public transport sector continues escalating

The number of public transports deployed in Riga reduce due to increasing infection rates among bus, tramway and trolleybus drivers, as reported by Rīgas satiksme board chairman Džineta Innusa at a press-conference on 1 November.
Currently out of 1 500 public transport drivers 330 are infected: some with Covid-19 and some with other diseases.
To avoid overworking the remaining drivers, RS has decided to reduce the number of deployed public transports in Riga by approximately 18%.
According to Innusa, the company will try to avoid reducing the number of public transports deployed in morning hours, when the number of passengers is usually the largest. The most popular routes will not be affected.
The biggest reduction is expected for routes that do not carry many passengers. Certain runs will be cancelled for weekends. For example, the 1st trolleybus route will be cancelled.
As previously reported, in 2020 the turnover of RS was EUR 173.503 million, which is 9.2% less than a year prior. The company’s profits increased 26.9%, reaching EUR 980 886.
Rīgas satiksme was registered in 2003. Riga City Council is the sole owner. Rīgas satiksme owns capital shares in SIA Rīgas karte (51%) and SIA Rīgas acs (100%).
