The World Health Organisation (WHO) reported on Friday, the 5th of May, that the global coronavirus pandemic is no longer considered an international threat in the healthcare sector.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced the decision to lift the highest alert level that was in force for three years.
The announcement from WHO has no direct effect, because each individual country decides on its own which preventive measures to employ. Ghebreyesus stressed that
the coronavirus is not over – it continues spreading all around the world.
It is dangerous and it can mutate into new and more dangerous variants at any moment. WHO did follow the suggestion from the committee of independent experts and lifted the highest alert level. The reason is because the agency is confident about its measures to keep people safe from this virus.
