Costs are heavy. Counter-mobility plan to be presented to Latvian government shortly

A detailed eastern border’s military reinforcement and counter-mobility plan will soon be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers, as Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds told TV3 programme 900 seconds.
He said the plan includes, among other things, the use of fortifications, defence lines and mines. The plan details numerous complex activities.
“There are plans for fortifications that may include that,” Sprūds said, answering the question if there are plans to construct bunkers close to the border.
At the same time, Sprūds noted that there will definitely be discussions about various activities, because costs aren’t low by any means.

It is necessary to agree how much financing to allocate towards this.

As previously reported, Latvian National Armed Forces (NSB) have started working on a plan for counter-mobility and military reinforcement of the border. This plan will include measures to ensure protection of the state border and delay the advancement of a possible invading army.
It is also reported that Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have signed an agreement on the creation of a Baltic Defence Line to reinforce the borders of Baltic States and NATO’s eastern border.
To deter and stop any potential aggressor country’s military aggression against Baltic States, the plan provides for developing and implementing various counter-mobility activities at the NATO and EU external border.
During their meeting, Baltic ministers of defence also signed Rocket Artillery Collaboration Letter of Intent in order to improve mutual cooperation in training and system maintenance. This document stresses the need to develop anti-air defence capabilities as an integral part of the Baltic region’s defence.
Baltic States are also committed to enhancing support for Ukraine with help from the coalition and supporting each other in the development of this coalition. Baltic States will also continue training Ukrainian troops.
