Colder weekend ahead: frost and even wet snow possible

On Thursday, skies will begin to clear only in the evening in western regions. During the night, short periods of rain are expected in many places. During the day, clouds will bring rain to central and eastern parts of the country, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall and possibly even thunderstorms, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Fog will form in some areas overnight and in the early morning hours. A light to moderate northerly wind will persist. Nighttime temperatures will not drop below +4°C, while daytime highs will range from +6°C in the north to up to +17°C in the south.

Toward the end of the week, colder air will move in, bringing nighttime temperatures close to or even below 0°C, signalling the arrival of the first frosts.

According to the Meteorology Centre, frost is expected on the nights of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday will see variable cloud cover, with light rain expected overnight and in the morning in some eastern areas. Over the weekend, the sun will shine more often, although light rain is still expected on Saturday, and some eastern parts may even see wet snow.

On Saturday, a light to moderate northwesterly to westerly wind will blow, becoming gusty during the day. Daytime temperatures will not exceed +10°C to +13°C.

Warmer weather is expected to return next week, with daytime highs likely rising again above +15°C. However, at the beginning of the week, frost may still occur in many areas.
