Clouds and rain over the weekend – wet snow and frost still possible in some areas

On Friday, Latvia’s weather will be affected by the northern edge of a cyclone, bringing mostly cloudy skies, with occasional sunshine, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

In the morning, wet snow may fall in northeastern regions. In southeastern parts, brief rain is expected in the afternoon, possibly accompanied by thunder.

Winds will be light to moderate from the east and northeast at night. However, in western Kurzeme during the first half of the night, the north wind may reach gusts of 15–17 m/s along the coast. Winds will gradually weaken during the day. Nighttime temperatures will mostly range from +1°C to +6°C, but in southeastern areas frost is still possible, with temperatures dropping to 0…–1°C. Daytime highs will reach +7…+12°C, though in northern regions they may stay between +4…+8°C.

On Saturday, skies will remain mostly cloudy with some clearing in places. Rainfall is expected only in isolated areas at night. Winds will remain light to moderate from the east, and fog may develop in northeastern regions, significantly reducing visibility. During the day, widespread rain is expected across much of the country. Nighttime lows will range from +2°C to +6°C, and daytime highs will reach +10…+14°C.

Sunday’s weather will be similar – mostly cloudy with widespread, prolonged rainfall across the country, and occasional thunderstorms possible. Winds from the north and northeast will increase during the day, reaching up to 15 m/s in gusts along the Kurzeme coast by evening. Night temperatures will stay between +4…+9°C, while daytime highs will reach levels similar to Saturday, with some northeastern areas warming up to +15…+16°C.

Meteorologists note that next week will bring more sunshine and less rainfall. While clouds will still appear at times, rain is mainly expected in the southern parts of the country on Monday. Winds will gradually shift from the north to the west and northwest by Tuesday, becoming gusty along the coast midweek.

Nights will become slightly warmer and frost is not expected. Overnight lows will be between +3…+9°C, and on Sunday night not lower than +7…+11°C. Daytime temperatures at the start of the week will rise to +13…+18°C (a bit cooler along the coast), before slightly cooling down again midweek.
