Changes in Latvian government to extend to Riga City Council as well

With the reshuffling of seats and parties in the new government, changes are also expected to come to the composition of Riga City Council.
National Alliance/Latvian Association of Regions members Jurģis Klotiņš and Ieva Brante may return to the city council.

This would mean that Ieva Holma and Edgars Štelmahers would have to leave their current posts in the city council.

Agnese Logina from the Progressive Party may have to leave her post in Riga City Council if she is approved as Minister of Culture. Mairita Lūse from the same party could be sent to work in the Saeima.
This would mean Progressive Party may experience a drop in their numbers in Riga City Council. The Progressive Party ran in Riga City Council elections together with Par and For Latvia’s Development.

According to election results, the next contender for a post in Riga City Council is Par movement member Edgars Jēkabsons.

As LETA was told by Jēkabsons, the final decision will be made by him once the new government is approved and he receives an official invitation to become a Riga City Council deputy.
If this happens, the number of deputies in Progressive party’s faction will go down from 12 to 11. Par movement may have to compose a separate faction, because after Mārtiņš Staķis announced his decision to leave the party in Riga City Council, Par has only two representatives left – Laima Geikina and Ivars Drulle.
For a faction to be composed, there have to be at least three members.
