On Monday, the 18th of November, the 106th anniversary of the proclamation of the Latvian State will be celebrated in Riga with various events, concerts and a laser light performance, reports the Riga City Council External Communications Department.
The festivities will start with a flower laying ceremony at 10:30 at the Freedom Monument.
At 13:30, a parade of the National Armed Forces will take place on the 11th of November Embankment.
Various concerts will also be held to mark Latvia’s birthday. The VEF Culture Palace will host a concert “Latvian Sound Paintings” with the participation of the Riga Orchestra. The Ave Sol Concert Hall will host the concert “Stay in my mind…” with the Emīls Dārziņš mixed choir, the Cantata string ensemble and the string quartet. The Great Hall of the Culture Palace “Ziemeļblāzma” will host a concert performed by the group “Carnival Youth”.
Riga residents are also invited to visit the Ķengarags School of Music and Art at 16:00 for the concert “Through the Silver Grove I Walked” with the participation of the ensembles “Kokļu klubs”, “Liepziedi”, “Liepiņa” and “Liepa” and soloist Mārtiņš Zvīgulis. At 17:00, a concert “Folk Song for Latvia” with the participation of the folklore and ancient fighting group “Vilkači” will take place at the Latvian War Museum.
In the evening, at 19:00, a festive event dedicated to the anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia will take place in Freedom Square, starting with a concert featuring musicians Ginta Krievkalna, Grēta Grantiņa, Andris Ērglis and Raimonds Celms.
After the event at 20:00, the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs will address the audience, the Latvian national anthem will be played, and the event will end with a laser light performance that will be repeated several times until 23:00.
After the ceremony, at 21:00, the public is invited to the Culture and Folk Art Centre Small Guild, where a festive concert “In the bloom of Latvia” will take place with the participation of the youth choir “Balsis”, pianist Ieva Dzērve and an instrumental ensemble.
