Canadian Armed Forces soldier missing in Latvia

According to a public statement from the Canadian Joint Operations Command, George Hall, a vehicle technician with the 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, has been missing since the 2nd of September and was last seen in Ādaži.

The NAF received the information from the Canadian Armed Forces Joint Operations Command. Search efforts for the soldier are underway.

The investigation is being led by the Latvian State Police in cooperation with the Canadian Armed Forces Military Police, NATO’s multinational brigade in Latvia, and the National Armed Forces, “using all available resources,” the NAF statement said.

The soldier’s family has been informed.

“Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family and loved ones,” the NAF added, stressing that, out of respect for the family’s privacy and to avoid interfering with the investigation, no further details about the disappearance will be provided. It remains unclear whether the soldier went missing while on duty or during his free time outside military facilities.

As previously reported, Canada is the lead nation of NATO’s multinational brigade stationed in Latvia. The allied brigade brings together troops from Canada, Albania, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
