Blinken: US will significantly boost support for Ukraine

During this visit to Kyiv on Wednesday, the 6th of September, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced Washington plans to significantly boost efforts to support Ukraine in its counter-offensive against Russia.
“President Biden asked me to come, to reaffirm strongly our support, to ensure that we are maximizing the efforts,” said Blinken during his meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We see the important progress that’s being made now in the counteroffensive, and that’s very, very encouraging.”

During the meeting Zelenskyy thanked the US for support, warning that there are tough months ahead of Ukraine.
“We are happy that we are not alone through this winter. We will go together with our partners,” he told Blinken.

The US Secretary of State also announced a new, more than one billion dollars-worth aid package for Ukraine. He said it will help speed up Ukraine’s counter-offensive.

“Today we’re announcing new assistance totaling more than one billion dollars in this common effort. That includes 665.5 million dollars in new military and civilian security assistance,” said Blinken at a press-conference with his Ukrainian colleague Dmytro Kuleba.
During Blinken’s visit, Russian committed a missile attack on a market in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, killing 17 and injuring 32.
