Thaw will continue in Latvia on Friday, the 23rd of December. Snow will melt in many places around Latvia, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Colder masses of air will flow to the country during the holiday. At times air temperature may drop as far as -14° C in eastern parts of Latvia.
Ice will form on roads, making them slippery. After the holiday, as a new cyclone approaches the country, another thaw is expected along with several precipitation zones.
On Friday, the 23rd of December, weather will be dictated by the south-eastern and southern portion of a cyclone. The sky will be covered by clouds, rain will come every now and then (snow and wet snow in eastern regions). Fog may form in morning hours and remain throughout the day in some areas. The wind will blow from the south and will be slow to moderate. Thaw will continue in all of Latvia and air temperature will stay between +1° C… +6° C. Thaw will continue and the layer of snow will reduce even more.
On Saturday clouds will cover the sky at night. Many parts of the country will experience precipitation. During the day, as atmospheric pressure increases, the sky will gradually clear up. With slow wind speed fog may form at night. Minimal air temperature is expected at -3° C… -8° C in most of the country and a couple of degrees warmer along the coast.
Air temperature will stay between 0° C… -5° C in most of the country and a couple of degrees above 0° C along the coast.
Clear sky is expected on Christmas Eve.
There will be more clouds on first and second Christmas. Although no major precipitation is expected on Sunday, a wide precipitation zone will pass through Latvia on Monday, the 26th of December. This means more snow and rain. The layer of snow will increase be a couple of degrees. Wind speed will be low. Colder masses of air will flow to the country on the holiday and air temperature will drop as far as -14° C in eastern parts of Latvia and -1° C… -5° C in the west.
Meteorologists predict overcast during the week. The cyclone will bring another precipitation zone, bringing wet snow and rain and warmer weather.
The wind will blow from the south-west and south and will become stronger. Average air temperature may stay above 0° C in many parts of the country. At times air temperature may exceed +5° C. Meteorologists expect that with such weather conditions snow may remain only in eastern parts of Latvia.
