Baltic law enforcers intercept narcotics worth 70 million euros in Vilnius

A shipment of narcotic substances transported through Latvia was intercepted by authorities in Vilnius thanks to an international police operation. The shipment contained half a ton of narcotic substances with a total value on the black market exceeding EUR 70 million, as reported by Lithuanian Customs Criminal Service on Friday, the 10th of November.
According to Lithuanian border guards, this volume of narcotics was not intended for the local market. It is more likely it was intended to go to another destination. Lithuanian authorities report that the operation involved Estonian Tax and Customs Department and Latvia’s Tax and Customs Police Office.
Lithuanian Customs Criminal Service have commenced a pre-trial investigation of a criminal case that revolves around an attempt to smuggle a large volume of narcotic substances. The director of a company involved in the case was given a special witness status and was interrogated. The investigation commenced thanks to cooperation from Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian officials, which helped discover

26 barrels containing crystalline synthetic narcotic substance, which were transported from Cyprus to Estonia.

In Estonia law enforcers inspected the cargo and found 482 kg of mephedrone. The cargo in question was delivered to and address of some logistical company in Vilnius through Latvia’s territory. The delivery was monitored and controlled by workers of Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian customs workers.
The shipment was delivered to the logistical company’s office in Vilnius on the 20th of October. It was intercepted there, and Lithuanian authorities performed a search in the company.
