Baltic foreign ministers condemn Trump’s idea of taking control of Greenland

Greenland is an integral part of Denmark, the foreign ministers of the Baltic states have stressed after US President Donald Trump once again said over the weekend that Greenland should come under the control of the United States.
Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braže said that issues important to Denmark and Greenland must be decided by Denmark and Greenland themselves.
“Respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty is the foundation of global stability, and all disagreements must be resolved through dialogue. Allies have pledged to each other to maintain peace and security. Denmark and Greenland themselves must decide the issues that are important to them,” Braže wrote on the platform X.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys also emphasized the importance of territorial integrity.
“Greenland is an integral part of the Kingdom of Denmark, which is a strong democracy and a reliable NATO ally. All issues arising from this are a matter of transatlantic security,” Budrys wrote on X. “Respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty is the basis of global stability.

All decisions regarding Greenland or Denmark are solely within their competence,”

he added.
Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stressed that Estonia “fully stands in solidarity with our Nordic and Baltic ally [Denmark].”
“Greenland is an integral part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and no decisions regarding Greenland can be taken without the participation of Greenland and Denmark,” he wrote on X.
As previously reported, Trump’s repeated remarks that Greenland should become part of the United States drew international condemnation on Monday.
Trump has repeatedly said he wants to annex Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, citing its strategic location.
On Sunday, Trump again said aboard the presidential aircraft Air Force One, while traveling from Florida to Washington, that Greenland is necessary for the United States from a national security perspective.
