For the first time since the company’s foundation AS Baltic Express (BE) has commenced transporting freights to the Freeport Riga. After signing the contract with SIA Alpha Osta, which operates from the Freeport of Riga, Baltic Express carried 15 freight cars with a total freight volume of more than 60 000 tonnes to Riga last month, according to ventspilnieks.lv.
Historically, Baltic Express has carried freights exclusively to the Freeport of Ventspils since the day the company was founded. This is why the start of cooperation with SIA Alpha Osta is considered by Baltic Express chairman Māris Bremze as an important step for the company’s future expansion and growth.
«We commenced cooperation at the end of August this year, and we are happy our client is satisfied with our services. Expansion of the company’s freight network, as well as the opportunity to work on the Latvian-Lithuanian border without mediation from monopolist SIA LDz Cargo allows us to offer our clients more economically beneficial conditions and thereby attract larger freight volumes. Our clients view us as a reliable partner that is able to find the best possible solution for each one of them. We are prepared to work with freight recipients working in Riga’s railway hub,» says Māris Bremze.
SIA Alpha Osta, which was originally constructed as a mineral fertilizer terminal, has switched to grains. The infrastructure used by Apha Osta includes grain storage bunkers, automated transportation and ship loading/unloading system. The terminal is also able to service Panamax-size ships.
It should be worth mentioning that in September 2021 AS Baltic Express together with one of the biggest grain processing companies in Baltic States AS Dobeles dzirnavnieks opened a new grain transport route Dobele-Ventspils. Māris Bremze says: «We are proud of the cooperation we have started with Dobeles dzirnavnieks and Alpha Osta. Our cooperation has resulted in a great new project to offer Latvian farmers and other freight owners. Our clients can be certain their freights will be delivered to their destination safe and sound.»
