At the beginning of the week, meteorological autumn will set in across the country – Monday will mark the start of meteorological autumn in Latvia, although in some coastal and other areas meteorological summer will still continue, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Meteorological autumn is considered to begin once the average air temperature remains below +15°C for five consecutive days.
On Monday and Tuesday, skies will clear in places, but many areas will experience cloud cover bringing short showers, with some locations expecting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Winds will be light to moderate from the west, while along the coast moderate to moderately strong west
and northwest winds will reach gusts of 15–18 m/s. By Tuesday, the wind will gradually subside. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +7…+10°C inland and +10…+13°C along the coast, while daytime temperatures will reach +13…+17°C.
On Wednesday and Thursday, precipitation is expected only in isolated areas – these will be the driest days of the week, as by the weekend most of the country will again see rain. Winds will remain light. Although meteorological autumn will have set in across much of the country, during the second half of the week a warmer air mass will flow into Latvia, allowing daytime temperatures in some areas to climb to +20°C, and locally even up to +24°C.
