Attīstībai/Par! (AP), which combines parties Latvijas attīstībai, Kustība Par! and Izaugsme, is unlikely to continue operations in its current format, said the co-chairman of Latvijas attīstībai Ivars Ijabs in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma on 4 November.
Ijabs admitted that after losing Saeima elections, AP decided to do serious reviewing. The process will conclude with a three-party congress in December. According to the politician, the initial shock is over and the party is not on the brink of falling apart.
When asked if the union of parties decides to continue working in as usual, Ijabs said not in the current format, because there is a great deal of pressure from members for changes. According to him, the next election is far away. It is possible parties part of the union may experience them separately and then come back together later on.
According to Ijabs, it is unlikely parties will have a higher chance of getting to power in dissolved form. This is why there may be another agreement for the next election.
Politics is more of an art of addition, rather than subtraction, added the politician.
The 14th Saeima elections turned out decisive for parties previously part of the coalition Attīstībai/Par! and Conservative Party, as well as Harmony party. None of them managed to overcome the 5% threshold and were left outside the parliament. AP was only 250 votes short to enter the 14th Saeima.
Looking as the government formation process, Ijabs said a conservative government is being shaped in Latvia, adding that relations within the government are already rather tense.
