Army parade in honour of 105th anniversary of Latvia’s independence to be held in Riga

Latvian National Armed Forces report that on Saturday, the 18th of November, there will be a special parade featuring Latvian and allied armed forces in Riga. The parade will take place at 13:30 in Riga on the 11th November Embankment and will be dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Day of Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia.
Riga municipal administration reminds that there will be road traffic restrictions during the parade.
Additionally, on the 18th of November public transport services and parking will be free of charge in Riga.
The parade that will include 1 500 troops, members of the National Guard, police officers, border guards, firefighters and rescuers will be led by the commander of the National Guard Col. Kaspars Pudāns. It will be attended by Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds, President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Commander of Latvian National Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Leonīds Kalniņš.
The music for the parade will be provided by the National Armed Forces Orchestra, Navy Orchestra and National Guard Orchestra.
The parade will also include vehicles used by the Latvian and allied forces, as well as State Police, State Border Guard and the State Fire and Rescue Service.
In the sky above the parade residents will see two helicopters of the State Border Guard, two new helicopters of the Latvian Air Force, five helicopters of the United States Operation Atlantic Resolve, two reconstructed An-2 Colt aircraft of the Air Force, which will release smoke in the colours of the Latvian flag, and an Airbus 220-300 of the Latvian national airline airBaltic.
The aviation portion of the parade will conclude with a fly-over by Spanish Air Forces, which are currently stationed at an air force base in Estonia, and Italian Air Forces based in Lithuania – both countries will be represented by two EF-200 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
The parade will feature military equipment of the Latvian Armed Forces – including Patria 6×6 armoured vehicles and CVR(T) combat reconnaissance tracked armoured vehicles. The parade will also feature self-propelled howitzers systems M109, mine explosion-proof road demining vehicles Husky, tactical vehicles Bombardier MAX 650 and other military equipment of the Latvian Armed Forces.
Visitors to the parade will also be able to see the armoured vehicles of allied countries, such as the Ariete tank of the Italian Armed Forces and the Centauro armored personnel carrier, the Leopard tank of the Spanish Armed Forces and the Pizarro infantry battle vehicle, the PT91 tank of the Polish Armed Forces, the Zuzan of the Slovak Howitzers, as well as the military equipment of the armed forces of other NATO countries.
A live broadcast of the parade will be available on LTV channel Riga TV24. Latvijas Radio will also provide audio coverage of the event. A final rehearsal of the parade will be held on the 11th November Embankment at 19:00 on the 17th of November.
On the day of the 105th anniversary of the Day of Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia there will be various road traffic restrictions in Riga.
For security purposes it will not be allowed to observe the military parade and its rehearsal from the Cable-stayed Bridge.
