The Latvian government decided to approve deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Regional Development Andris Ķēniņš for the post of the director general of the State Environment Service.
He won the personnel selection process for this post.
Ķēniņš is also the acting director general of the State Environment Service, as well as a board member in state company Environmental Investment Fund LLC.
Previously he was the executive director of Latvian Broadcasters Association. In parallel to that, he was also a council member in the state company Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD).
Between 2012 and 2017 Ķēniņš was the head of the National Electronic Mass Media Council’s secretariat. Before then he held various posts related to office and department management. He also served as a member in councils and boards of various organisations. Ķēniņš graduated from the University of Latvia with a Master’s degree in jurisprudence.
In total, there were nine candidates for the aforementioned post. Six of them made it to the second stage of the selection process.
The previous head of VVD Elita Baklāne-Ansberga left her post in summer 2023 amid a conflict with then minister Māris Sprindžuks.
