Ambassador: The Baltic states should not panic over a possible Russian invasion

The Baltic states should not fall into panic over a possible Russian invasion; however, it is clear that we live next to an aggressive and unreliable neighbor that continues to militarize and question the inviolability of state borders, Latvia’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Andrejs Pildegovičs, said in an interview with the LETA news agency.

The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, who previously led Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, had earlier stated that Russia is preparing to invade the Baltic states.

Pildegovičs believes that Budanov’s words should be taken seriously in order to be prepared for crisis situations. “We are all aware of Russia’s drone attacks on various European countries, as well as the damaged cables in the Baltic Sea,” the ambassador said.

At the same time,

he stressed that these threats should not be viewed as inevitable or unavoidable.

“Of course, Budanov’s message was also directed at European leaders, to convey that in the event of Ukraine’s defeat, Russia’s threats to Europe would increase,” Pildegovičs said.

He added that living on Russia’s border requires vigilance and that society as a whole must think about security.
