airBaltic market share at Riga International Airport down to 50.9% in 2022

Latvian national airBaltic airline’s market share passenger numbers-wise at Riga International Airport went down by 6.4 percentage points to 50.9% in 2022, according to information compiled by the airport.
At the same time, Irish low-cost airline
Ryanair has increased its market share in Riga by 9.5 percentage points, reaching 30.7%.
At the same time, Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air market share passenger numbers-wise went down by 1.7 percentage points at Riga airport last year – to 3.8%. The share of Norwegian airline was 3.2% last year, which is 1.1 percentage points higher when compared with 2021. Turkish Airlines had a market share of 2.1% at Riga International Airport last year, which is 0.8 percentage points less then a year prior.
Finnish Finnair had a market share of 1.9% last year, German Lufthansa’s market share in Riga was 1.8%, Latvia-based SmartLynx Airlines held 1.8% of the market share. Polish LOT Polish Airlines held 1.2%. Compared with 2021, Russian Aeroflot is no longer among airlines operating from Riga International Airport with market share that exceeds 1%.
In 2021 airBaltic’s market share passenger numbers-wise was 57.2%, that of Ryanair was 21.2%, and that of Wizz Air was 5.5%.
As previously reported, in 2022 Riga International Airport serviced 5.381 million passengers, which is 2.3 times more when compared with a year prior, when 2.353 million passengers were serviced. In total, the airport serviced 54 818 flights, which is 40% more when compared with 2021. 48 427 of them were passenger flights, which is 69% more when compared with 2021, when 28 694 passenger flights were serviced by the airport.
Riga International Airport is the biggest air traffic hub in the Baltic States.
