airBaltic announces cancellation of several thousand flights this summer

This summer, the Latvian national airline airBaltic will discontinue flights on 19 routes due to engine maintenance delays, canceling a total of 4 670 flights, airBaltic representatives report.

Flights were cancelled because of lengthy engine maintenance performed by the manufacturer “Pratt & Whitney”.

The manufacturer has informed airBaltic about the upcoming delivery delays in 2025, which means that part of the Airbus A220-300 aircraft will not be able to fly, the airline says, adding that as a result, the airline will have to discontinue flights on 19 routes, reducing the frequency of flights on 21 routes.

Representatives of the airline explain that, like many other airlines around the world, airBaltic has also faced external factors beyond its full control, including global supply chain problems and engine maintenance limitations.

Passengers affected by cancellations are asked to check their bookings on “Mana rezervācija” page of airbaltic.com.

The airline apologizes for the inconvenience and offers affected passengers the opportunity to change their flight booking or provide a full refund if necessary. If tickets were purchased through a third-party web portal, it is necessary to contact the respective ticket seller.

For additional assistance, passengers can also contact airBaltic call centre.

airBaltic carried a total of 4.536 million passengers in 2023, an increase of 35.7% compared to 2022, and performed 44 100 flights, which is an increase of 18.3% when compared to the year before.

The audited turnover of airBaltic in 2023 was EUR 664.289 million, which is an increase of 33.2% compared to 2022. The company made a profit of EUR 33.852 million as opposed to losses a year earlier.

The Latvian state owns 97.97% of airBaltic shares, while financial investor, Danish entrepreneur Lars Tussen’s Aircraft Leasing 1 owns 2.03%.
