The first week of February was windy and rich with precipitation. This week, however, precipitation intensity will gradually go down, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The sky will become clear more often, and air temperature will stay at about 0° C.
Monday will be mostly cloudy with moments of clear sky. A precipitation zone will pass into the country from the north, bringing snow to most of the country. Precipitation will calm down during the day – only eastern parts will experience some snow. Maximum daytime air temperature will stay within -1° C… +3° C.
On Tuesday the sky will clear up at times. At night, however, only eastern regions will experience snowfall. Fog is expected to form at night and in morning hours in western parts of the country. Minimal air temperature in western parts of the country is expected at 0° C… -4° C, whereas in eastern parts air temperature will go down as far as -4° C… -9° C. Daytime air temperature will largely stay within 0° C… -3° C (0° C… +3° C in Kurzeme).
Precipitation will calm down in the middle of the week.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be cloudy but dry. Wind speed will be slow to moderate. Minimal air temperature at night will be -4° C… -8° C (+1° C… -4° C in Kurzeme and coastal regions). Daytime air temperature will reach -2° C… +3° C. Air temperature will remain colder in eastern parts of the country.
Currently future forecasts for the weekend are uncertain. However, the latest estimates lean towards cyclone activity above Finland, which means strong wind and a wide precipitation zone for Latvia.
