On Monday, the 8th of January, weather in Latvia will be sunny. However, clouds will gradually move in from the north, bringing some snow to the country’s north-eastern areas. The wind will be slow. It will blow from the west on the coast during the day, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The night to Monday was the coldest this week – air temperature dropped to -9° C… -14° C along the coast, -19° C in western regions, -24° C in central regions and as far as -30 C in eastern regions. Daytime air temperature will go up to -10° C… -15° C (0° C in coastal areas at times).
On Tuesday night air temperature in many north-eastern regions will fall as far as -15° C. However, as warmer masses of air flow to the country, air temperature will become positive, reaching upwards of +3° C in coastal regions. The amount of clouds in the sky will increase as well, meteorologists say.
The thaw will continue in the middle of the week – in western areas air temperature may go below 0° C, mostly at night. Daytime air temperature will vary between 0° C and +4° C. No significant precipitation is expected. Wind speed will go up slightly, meteorologists say.
Weather will change at the end of the week. On the night to Friday air temperature will go down again – as far as -12° C. In western parts of the country air temperature will stay close to 0° C… +2° C (0 C… -5° C in eastern parts of the country). With air temperature fluctuating between positive and negative values, weather will be damp – meteorologists predict snow and wet snow. Roads will become slippery as well.
