Following the election result in which Stability! received 1.997% of the vote, failing to enter the Saeima and losing state funding, party leader Aleksejs Rosļikovs currently has no plans to return to Latvia from Belarus, party board chair Svetlana Čulkova told LETA.
At the same time, Čulkova said Rosļikovs does not intend to end his political activities.
“He will continue to be actively involved in politics, express his views and defend the people and issues to which he has devoted his work so far,” the politician said.
Čulkova thanked those who supported Stability! in the Saeima election.
“Despite everything that has happened recently, despite the pressure directed against our party, against me and against Aleksejs Rosļikovs, you still came out and cast your vote for us,” the Saeima member said, noting that it had not been an easy period.
Čulkova noted that before the election
Rosļikovs had clearly stated that if people in Latvia supported him and were prepared to stand up for him, he would be ready to return to Latvia.
“The election results currently show that society has a different view of Latvia’s future direction. Voters did not choose the political course we proposed – more active defence of residents’ interests, improving prosperity, lower prices, greater social security and protecting the interests of Latvia’s residents,” Čulkova said.
According to the party, the result also shows that a large part of society is currently not prepared to stand up more actively for its interests and demand changes that would improve people’s everyday lives and well-being.
“That is society’s decision, and in a democracy it must be respected,” Čulkova said.
Stability! accepts the election result as it stands. At the same time, the party says its convictions remain unchanged. Latvia’s residents deserve a better standard of living, more affordable prices, social security and policies that put people and their well-being first, Čulkova said.
She added that the party would continue its work.
