Latvian Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has commenced a total of 18 administrative violation procedures over failure to submit a political party’s annual account within the term or in accordance with the order provided by the law. Among the political parties in question is the party led by politician and businessman Ainārs Šlesers.
KNAB reports having received accounts from 46 political parties for 2021, which parties were supposed to submit by 31 March.
KNAB has not received accounts from 16 political parties: Alternative; Association Residents; Awakening; Latvia’s Awakening; For a Free and Strong Latvia; Freedom. Free of fears, hate and anger; Krimulda County Party; Christian Progressive party; Latvia in First Place; Latvian Revival Party; Law.Responsibility.Order; Our Party; Action Party; Ropaži Team; Cooperation and United for Latvia.

Two political parties submitted their annual accounts after receiving a warning from KNAB and that the bureau decided to commence an administrative violation procedure against them. Two political parties have not followed the law and have not submitted their annual accounts.
KNAB reminds that in accordance with the Law on Financing of Political Organisations (Parties), political parties that fail to submit an annual account may risk termination. All annual accounts submitted by political parties for 2021 are available on KNAB website and Latvian Herald.
