Ādaži municipal council deputy Antra Krasta denies having any involvement in the criminal procedure launched by the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) over a recent bribery attempt.
The deputy reports that on the 16th of January KNAB requested information from her about her possible involvement in the aforementioned criminal case. On the 20th of January the bureau received confirmation that she is not involved in it.
On the 18th of January Ādaži municipal council’s Finance Committee convened for a meeting, during which members actively discussed the situation with the bribery case. Harmony member Jānis Leja turned directly towards coalition member Krasta and asked her to provide her opinion. The member of the opposition accused her of being the one who took the money, because she had previously changed her opinion about the coalition last year. According to him, she lied. KNAB reports, on the other hand, that the case revolves around a bribery attempt, not someone accepting a bribe.
After this exchange multiple deputies started yelling and calling each other names at the meeting. The municipal council chairperson Karīna Miķelsone then stepped in,
interrupting the meeting and inviting the hot-headed deputies to «step out and cool off».
As deputy Imants Krastiņš said after the meeting, he was surprised when deputies voted against his solution to ensure order during meetings. No explanation was received from Krasta either. According to him, the best way to put concerns to rest is to «openly discuss» the problematic topic.
