On Thursday and Friday, the weather will remain wet, and on Friday during the day, rain in some areas will gradually turn to sleet and snow, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
During the night to Thursday, fog will form in some regions, reducing visibility. On Thursday, a light to moderate west and south-westerly wind will blow, becoming moderately strong along the coast during the day, with gusts reaching 15–18 m/s. On Friday night, the wind will gradually shift to the north and northeast, with gusts up to 15 m/s along the coast and in some eastern areas. On Thursday, air temperatures will remain between +5…+8°C both day and night, but on Friday they will drop by a couple of degrees.
Over the weekend, colder air will continue to flow into Latvia from the north, causing temperatures to fall below 0°C in many places. During the night to Saturday, temperatures in parts of the eastern regions may fall as low as –6°C.
The day will be cloudy, and in the afternoon snow and sleet are expected in western and central regions,
while along the coast, where temperatures will be higher, rain is also likely. On Sunday, precipitation is expected across a wider area of the country.
At the start of the new workweek, warmer air will again flow into Latvia, and sub-zero temperatures will be confined to nighttime hours in the east. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, with occasional precipitation, and on Monday the wind will become gusty once more.
