In his address to the UN, President of Ukraine Volodimir Zelensky asked Security Council to take action against Russia for its crimes that left Ukraine cold and dark, informs Reuters.
Zelensky told the UN Security Council that Russia deliberately left his country in darkness, targeting civil infrastructure: «Today is just one day, but we have received 70 missiles. That’s the Russian formula of terror. This is all against our energy infrastructure… Hospitals, schools, transport, and residential districts all suffered.» President urged to take appropriate steps and make Russia take responsibility. Most likely, the Security Council won’t take action since Russia is a member with veto power.
While the West condemns Russia’s actions and war, Russia’s UN ambassador Vasily Nebenzya in turn blames the West and Ukraine for the harsh situation. He told that damages to the electric grid and civilians are from Ukraine’s air defense system and urged Western countries to stop help and missile supply.
Nebenzya rejected all accusations as «reckless threats and ultimatums».
In Ukraine, the Kiyv region remains the main target for Russian strikes, and in the latest attack that hit high-rise apartment buildings, ten people died. Millions of people are living without electricity and other services. Specialists and workers are on duty around the clock and they are doing their best to restore main services, said Zelensky.
Moscow has admitted that it is targeting civil infrastructure as a part of the plan to weaken Ukraine’s defense and to push it to negotiate.
Zelensky had a firm answer to that: «We’ll renew everything and get through all of this because we are an unbreakable people.»
The hardest battles are happening in the Donetsk region, and a unit of Chechen fighters is helping Ukrainians. Their hope is that leader of Chechnya Ramzan Kadirov will fall together with Moscow.
