United Nations: Situation in Iran is critical

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk on Tuesday, the 22nd of November, said that situation regarding human rights is critical in Iran. Authorities are making harsh decisions and acting violently, writes Reuters.
Turk said at a press briefing in Geneva: «The rising number of deaths from protests in Iran, including those of two children at the weekend, and the hardening of the response by security forces, underline the critical situation in the country.»
Iran experienced mass protests that began in September when the violent arrest on 22 years old Kurdish woman caused her death. Morality police arrested her because of her “inappropriate” clothes. Protesters come from different layers of society.

Iranian football team refused to sing countries anthem before their opening World Cup match as a gesture of support to protesters.

These are the biggest protests in Iran since the Islamic revolution in 1979.
Overall death toll reaches over 300 victims, says UN. At least 40 of them are children.
