US estimates around 200 000 military casualties in Ukraine

US generals estimate casualties in the war in Ukraine are around 100 000 troops on every side and 40 000 killed civilians, as reported by BBC.
General Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, also supposes that around 40 thousand civilians have died during the military conflict. Suffering also comes from widespread destruction. The general said that the estimated number of war refugees is 15 to 30 million. While the UN has registered around 7.8 million Ukrainian refugees in Europe, including Russia, it doesn’t include persons who had to flee their homes but remain in the territory of Ukraine.
Regarding the killed military personnel, it’s hard to tell the exact number since neither side discloses this information. The last update from Russia’s side was in September, the first since March. The report said that 5 937 troops had been killed since the start of the war, and Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu dismissed reports of a significantly higher death toll. However, Mark Milley suggests that the number is way more terrifying.

It may be around 100 000 killed and badly wounded troops on Russia’s side, and it’s believable that the number on Ukraine’s side is similar.

On 9 November, Russia declared that its army was starting to withdraw from Kherson. General Milley said that it would take several weeks since the number of troops in Kherson could be as high as 30 000.
