The demolition and removal of sculptures and debris left from the Monument to the Liberators of Soviet Latvia and Riga from the German Fascist Invaders in Victory Park is officially over.
As reported by Riga City Council, the report from the contracted construction company shows work is two weeks ahead of schedule. The obelisk that was toppled in August and fell into the basin was also removed in full. Dismantling of the obelisk is complete as well.
Demolition of other structures related to the monument is 95% complete. Work continues on the removal of the reinforced concrete structures.
Removal of the foundation of the monument complex and remaining structures is scheduled to be completed in October.
An entry lane from Bāriņu Street is prepared for heavy transports so that it is possible to commence the filling of the basin.
