Latvia continues provided aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia. The country is Nr. 1 among countries when it comes to donations in proportion to their respective GDP, as Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs wrote on Twitter.
Between 24 February and 3 October 2022 Latvia has donated 0.9% of its GDP to Ukraine. Estonia is second with 0.8% of GDP and Poland is third with 0.5% of its GDP.
Data from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy indicates that Latvia has donated a total of EUR 314 million, which is the 16th best result in the world and the biggest amount of support provided when compared to the country’s GDP.

Latvia has donated the most to Ukraine towards military purposes. The country allocated EUR 298 million, which is the 8th best result in the world.

Estonia has donated a total of EUR 263 million to Ukraine so far. Approximately EUR 258 million was diverted towards military aid.
Lithuania is fourth with a donation of EUR 244 million, with EUR 187 million of this amount diverted towards military aid.
Poland has allocated nearly EUR 3 billion, with EUR 1.82 billion of this amount being diverted to wards military aid. Poland has also provided Ukraine with financial aid worth more than EUR 1 billion.

In total European countries have donated EUR 16.2 billion to Ukraine.

Most of this amount – EUR 12.3 billion – is financial support. EUR 2.5 billion was diverted towards military aid.
The biggest amount of financing has so far come from the U.S. – EUR 52.3 billion. The majority of this amount was diverted towards military aid – EUR 27.6 billion. Financial aid reaches EUR 15.2 billion, and humanitarian – EUR 9.5 billion.
It is important to keep in mind that the aid promised by countries to Ukraine may differ from the aid the country has already received. This difference is especially clear when it comes to military aid. For example, the U.S. is committed to supplying Ukraine with arms worth EUR 27.6 billion, but so far arms supplies have reached EUR 2.55 billion.
Latvia’s aid worth EUR 298 million has already been delivered to Ukraine in full.
In general NATO and the EU have donated 2% of their tanks, 4% of howitzers and 5% of their missile systems.

At the same time, the value of arms supplies from Germany have not changed for several months. Support from this country remains at EUR 1.2 billion.

In the past two months there have been only limited promises from France, Britain, Spain or Italy.
